Further, the diverse student body allowed me to become familiar with systems and institutions across the world in a manner in which I never thought possible. These scholastic attributes combined with the opportunity to live in two magnificent – if diametrically different – European cities, proved to be a unique and awesome experience that I would recommend to anyone. Currently, I am working at the Center for Media and Communication Studies, where I am continuing work that I began during my studies at CEU, and have initiated a new project on Internet Freedom of Expression in coordination with an international NGO.

Proof of English language proficiency has to be provided by each student, except when English is his or her native language or if his or hers first degree has been undertaken in English.

Le programme

JEMES allows you to design your study plan based on your interests and preferences. All JEMES students obtain 75% of their credits in one and 25 % in the other stream in order to obtain the 120 ECTS necessary to obtain the Master Degree. You can start in your preferred stream and switch to the other stream in the second semester. After that you will be asked to decide in which orientation to specialise. The third semester has a strong focus on project work; the fourth semester is devoted to research leading to the Masters thesis. See the Mobility Structure here.

Semester Structure
The modules provided for JEMES within each stream assure complementarities of knowledge, avoiding any overlap. All students spend the first semester in one of the two streams and the second semester in the other. A general overview on environmental technology disciplines and on environmental management disciplines is offered (but not on beginners' level), assuring that the students coming from the other stream will be able to understand, to communicate and to deal with the relevant aspects of this orientation.

The third semester is at each institution characterised by its focus on project work, plus a range of courses that again reflect the different areas of expertise of the involved institutes. In the third semester, it may be (but must not be) a first step of research for the Master thesis. The subjects proposed for project work will be consulted beforehand with the other partners to ensure that they match with the interests of and the specialisations chosen by the students. Industrial partners who accept English-speaking candidates are available. Project work may also be done in research institutions, governmental institutions, or other enterprises. The students will be prompted to apply their knowledge about basic theories, concepts and methods to the real-world problems they will encounter in the projects. The underlying hypothesis of the consortium is that offering students both a profound theoretical education and a wide range of possibilities to make use of their knowledge to solve practical problems can best support the transfer from theory to practice.

In the fourth semester, Students perform research activities and write a Master Thesis within the research field of the university they choose as the host in their final semester.

Master thesis work shall be supervised by a local professor and a professor of a JEMES partner university.
