The Strategic Operations Management programme teaches you how different ways of arranging physical facilities affect the nature of flow through the operation, the various types of process, and how these ‘building blocks’ of operations are designed. Furthermore, you will study in-depth the materials requirements planning (MRP) as an approach to calculating how many parts or materials of particular types are required and what times they are required.
In addition, the course helps you understand how the effectiveness of operations is influenced by the fast-moving development in process technology and the elements of human resource management that are traditionally seen as being directly within the sphere of operations management.
Through this course, you will study how operations organise the delivering of their products and services on an ongoing basis so that customers’ demands are satisfied and learn how operations need to decide how to vary their capacity (if at all) as demand for their products and services fluctuates.
By the end of the programme, you will be able to understand how transformed resources accumulate as inventories as they flow through processes, operations or supply networks, as well as how systems are needed to manage the very large amounts of information required to plan and control operations, and how enterprise resource planning (ERP) is used to do this.
