Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

Psychology is the science of behavior. Students learn how human behavior depends on biological factors, developmental status, cognitive processes, and social conditions. Behavioral science encompasses a wide range of methods and topics, from brain function to cultural influences. The discoveries of psychology improve understanding of the human experience and the quality of life.

Psychology is presented both as a science that strives to understand human nature and as a helping profession. Majors are prepared for graduate study in psychology and other professions and develop self-awareness and the ability to manage their own lives.

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology opens up a wide variety of career options, for training in psychology develops a variety of important skills and abilities: interpersonal communication skills, analytical skills, writing skills, and research skills. Careers that involve the use of one or more of these sets of skills, and for which psychology majors are therefore especially well-prepared, include: careers in social work (e.g., as a case worker) and counselling; employment in personnel departments; management positions; work as a researcher; careers in business; and work in the fields of health and recreation.
