Overview

A supply chain consists of the entire network of companies involved in the production and delivery of a product or service to the end customer. Choices made in managing the supply chain have a large impact on the total cost and on the service provided to customers, making supply chain decisions critical for a company’s success. Many companies gained competitive advantage via supply chain decision, with Dell, Wal-Mart, Hewlett-Packard and Procter & Gamble being among the well-known examples. Increasing global competition, as well as new issues (e.g., sustainability) will continue to make supply chain management critical to business success for years to come.
The objective of this course is to provide general managers with an understanding of the key drivers of supply chain performance and to develop analytical skills that can be used to make supply chain management decisions. While time constraints will not allow us to go into great depth on each of the topics, the course will be a good basis for those who intend to manage supply chains or to do supply chain management related consulting.

Learning outcomes

• Assess the value and risks of global supply chains
• Realize the value and limitations of SCM concepts such as supplier scoring models, CPFR or postponement
• Analyze impact of various SC decisions on firm performance, in terms of total logistics cost, customer service, quality, or ability to offer customization
• Apply basic models to make decisions regarding distribution strategies or demand allocation in manufacturing networks
• Understand the importance of simultaneous product and supply chain design
