PROGRAM
This program is organized in 3 intensive modules:
As a participant of the Certificate in Entrepreneurship, you will join MBA participants for these specialization modules. You will benefit from the diverse multicultural environment and you will extend your professional network.
“Most of what you hear about entrepreneurship is all wrong. It’s not magic; it’s not mysterious; and it has nothing to do with genes. It’s a discipline and, like any discipline, it can be learned.” (Peter F. Drucker)
INTRODUCTION TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP: FEB 13 - 17, 2017
There is no doubt that the level of interest in entrepreneurship has raised dramatically over the years. Many individuals, whatever their age, aspire to be entrepreneurs, enjoying the passion, freedom, independence and wealth such a career seems to suggest. At the same time larger corporations want to become more entrepreneurial and benefit from the innovative and adaptive qualities they see in players of smaller size.
By the end of the module, participants should be able to:
Understand the meaning of entrepreneurial behavior to economic development
Recognize the different contexts in which entrepreneurial behavior exists
Understand the dynamics of entrepreneurial teams
Understand the founders’ dilemmas and the entrepreneurial process
Understand the sources of entrepreneurial opportunities
Assess one’s own entrepreneurial qualities
Assess a firm’s internal environment for corporate entrepreneurship
ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES: APRIL 3 - 7, 2017
LEAN STARTUP EXPERIENTIAL TEAM LEARNING
This module provides real-world, hands-on learning on what it’s like to actually start a scalable company.
Startups are a fundamentally a different activity than managing a business (“a startup is a temporary organization designed to search for a repeatable and scalable business model” - Steve Blank). This module provides hands-on experience to the students. It prepares them for the realities of building or working in startups.
This class is both experiential and team-based. Working and studying will be done in teams. Teams will work on a real startup project and will store their customer discovery and customer validation works using the LaunchPad Central platform.
Each day will be a new adventure outside the classroom as teams test each part of their business model and then share their newly earned knowledge with the rest of the class. Besides interactions with prospects outside the classroom, teams will get feedback from the teachers, coaches and other teams.
On successful completion of this course, the participants should be able to:
Understand the importance of the “lean” start-up mode for entrepreneurial success, and how to use it in the early stages of the new venture creation process
Design a business model for an entrepreneurial opportunity
Test these innovative ideas and business models through customer discovery & customer validation
NEW VENTURE BUSINESS PLANNING | SMALL & FAMILY BUSINESS: MAY 29 – 2 JUNE, 2017
NEW VENTURE BUSINESS PLANNING
“Entrepreneurship is the process by which individuals pursue opportunities without regard to the resources they currently control” (Howard Stevenson).
This module has been developed to meet the needs of entrepreneurial individuals who want to advance in the new venture creation process from the idea stage to the proof-of-concept stage with mimimun costs and investments, and garner the attention of outside stakeholders for further acceleration of the emergence of their new business.
SMALL & FAMILY BUSINESS
This portion of the module allows participants to ‘step into the shoes’ of family and small business owner/managers and obtain a unique fast track learning experience in understanding the fundamentals and challenges in running and growing an existing company.
On successful completion of this course, the participants should have an understanding of:
Understand the main mechanisms to obtain funding for start-ups
Understand the main stakeholders that can provide external resources (funding, advice, network) to the founders
Pitch the project to such stakeholders (express novel business ideas in concise and attractive manner orally)
Know why / when / how to write a business plan
Understand the various exit strategies for the founders and different types of investors
Evaluate and prepare for the challenges of growth
Examine the specific factors that face small and family businesses on the journey of business growth
Understand the basics about funding of growth businesses
