Spanish is second only to English as the most commonly spoken language in the U.S. In fact, in the States, about 35 million people, approximately 15% of the population, speak Spanish as their primary language. Population projections show that this percentage will grow considerably in the future. The ability to speak both Spanish and English is increasingly valuable for people who live in the U.S. with each passing year. Spanish is also gaining importance in Europe, where it is quickly becoming the foreign language of choice after English.

SLU Madrid offers nursing students the chance to become professionally competent in Spanish. Besides Spanish language classes, the Nursing Degree with International Preparation offers specialist Spanish medical language classes, and nursing students undertake their clinical practice studies in top Spanish hospitals, working alongside native Spanish doctors and nurses to treat and assist Spanish patients.

Nursing students take classes with students from Spain and around the world at the Madrid campus, located in the vibrant capital of Spain. Students may choose to live with Spanish families, further enhancing the immersion process; they can also participate in all of the extracurricular activities our campus offers, including the cultural trips to destinations across Spain and around Europe.

Steeped in the rich madrileño culture, while living, working and studying alongside Spaniards, students do not only master a second language and earn a degree in nursing. Their international experience prepares them to be leaders among health care professionals, men and women with and for others, whose lives exemplify what it means to make a difference.
