Les Avis
Le programme
The Fine Arts program at Saint Louis University is a thorough, hands-on experience that includes sketching, sculpture, painting and design, among other fundamental disciplines. It demands in-depth studies in humanities encompassing history, literature, philosophy, as well as studies in natural science. The study of Fine Arts guides us to the most prominent creations of the human spirit; for example, the cave paintings of antiquity, contemporary sculpture of Rodin and Brancusi, the enigmatic gothic cathedrals or the exquisite paintings of the Italian Renaissance.
The degree obtained through the Fine Arts program of Saint Louis University offers an excellent combination of education in humanities and practical experience. Students will study their first two years in Madrid, subsequently finalizing their studies in St. Louis, Missouri. The Madrid campus offers an extensive range of subjects and boasts a privileged geographical location, as much for the fine cultural and artistic heritage of Spain as for its proximity to other artistic emporiums of first world importance like Italy, France, and Greece.
The study of Fine Arts enhances human character and has played a key role in the advancement of humankind. The Fine Arts program of Saint Louis University pulls from past and contemporary contributions to our artistic heritage to instill this idea in students.
All Studio Art majors will be required to submit a portfolio of artwork for faculty review after the 12 hours of foundation courses and the completion of 6 additional hours from Level I courses or one Level I and one level II course for a total of 18 hours of Studio Art courses. The portfolio review should occur no later than the first semester of the junior year. Acceptance of the portfolio is required to graduate with a major in Studio Art. Also, in order to complete the degree, among other requirements, it is necessary to take nine credit hours in Art History.
